Cruise Lines React To COVID-19 With Updated Policies & Charity Cruises

Many cruise lines have acted quickly in the wake of the COVID-19 concern, to ensure fair outcomes for cruise lovers. Updated cancellation policies, charity cruises and re-routed ships have helped ease some of the pain for customers and cruise lines alike.

Here are some of the most important changes released directly from the cruise lines over the last few weeks.


Royal Caribbean /Azamara / Celebrity – All cruises leaving on or before 31 July 2020 will be able to cancel up to 48 hours prior to departure and receive full credits you can use on any future cruise departing in 2020 or 2021. Royal is calling it the ‘Cruise with Confidence’ policy. More details here.

Princess Cruises – Cruises leaving on 3 April 2020 or earlier are able to cancel up to 72 hours before sailing and will receive a Future Cruise Credit to the value of the cancellation fees. For sailings from 4 April – 31 May 2020; cancel before 31 March to get a full refund of the initial deposit. Your Future Cruise Credit can be used on any new or existing booking not yet paid in full and departing on or before 31 December 2021.


Following the growing concern of COVID-19 in Asia; Cunard, Royal Caribbean and Princess Cruises have made tracks to relocate their ships down-under and kick off a jam-packed Australian cruising season early.

Sapphire Princess – Arrives 1 May 2020
Cruise from Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne or Brisbane with 44 new cruises onboard Sapphire Princess as she starts her Aussie season 6 months earlier than planned, this will be her first time back in the country in over 10 years.

Spectrum of the Seas – Cruising In March 2020
Earlier this month Royal announced 3 complimentary short cruises from Sydney for Australia’s bushfire fighting volunteers on the newly built Spectrum of the Seas. The cruises have already begun sailing from Sydney, with the third and final cruise from 13-17 March 2020.
